Why Fall is the Best Season for Laser Treatments

Lisa Lambert • October 6, 2026

Fall can be a great time to start laser and light-based skin treatments because it may be easier to limit sun exposure and plan recovery between appointments. The right timing still depends on your skin tone, recent tanning, treatment type, and ability to follow aftercare instructions.

If your summer left you with more noticeable brown spots, uneven tone, or rough texture, you may be ready to do something about it.

At Chronos Body Health & Wellness in Metairie, we start with a conversation about what you’re seeing in your skin and what you want to improve. Then we help you choose a treatment that fits your goals, your skin, and your schedule.

Fall is often a practical time to begin that plan. Here’s why—and what to know before booking.

Why Is Fall a Good Time for Laser Treatments?

1. Sun protection may be easier to work into your routine

Fewer pool days and beach weekends can make it easier to avoid tanning and protect treated skin.

But here in the Greater New Orleans area, fall doesn’t mean the sun takes the season off. Outdoor events, weekend sports, and everyday errands still mean sun exposure.

Protecting your skin before and after treatment remains essential. Cooler temperatures alone do not make a treatment safer or guarantee faster healing.

2. You can address visible signs of summer sun exposure

After summer, you may notice discoloration or uneven tone more than you did a few months earlier. Some of those changes reflect years of accumulated exposure, rather than just one season.

Depending on the concern, laser or light-based treatments may help improve visible brown spots, redness, texture, or fine lines. They can reduce certain cosmetic signs of sun damage; they do not erase every effect of UV exposure or replace skin checks.

3. There’s time to plan treatment around your calendar

Some treatment plans involve a series of appointments. Others require more recovery after a single session.

Starting the conversation in fall gives you time to discuss treatment spacing, downtime, and upcoming events. If you have holiday photos, a wedding, or travel planned, tell us before scheduling.

Your treatment plan should leave room for healing—not have you guessing whether your skin will be ready for an important date.

Which Laser or Light Treatment Is Right for Your Skin?

The best option depends on what you want to improve. Brown spots, redness, acne scars, and deeper wrinkles don’t all call for the same approach.

MOXI: For uneven tone and texture

MOXI is a non-ablative fractional laser used to improve pigmentation, texture, and overall skin quality. It may suit patients seeking a refresh with less downtime than more aggressive resurfacing.

BBL HEROic: For visible discoloration and redness

BBL HEROic uses BroadBand Light to address concerns such as brown spots, redness, and uneven tone. BBL is a light-based treatment, rather than a laser. Recent tanning and skin tone affect suitability.

CO₂: For more substantial resurfacing

CO₂ laser resurfacing may be considered for wrinkles, acne scars, and more pronounced texture concerns. It requires more recovery planning than gentler options.

Other options may fit your goals

Chronos also offers Clear + Brilliant, fractional erbium, and other laser and light treatments. Your consultation helps narrow the choices.

Can MOXI and BBL HEROic Be Combined?

For appropriate candidates, yes. They can complement one another when a patient wants to address both skin texture and visible discoloration.

A combination is not automatically the best choice for everyone. We’ll discuss whether one treatment or a coordinated plan makes sense for your skin.

What Should You Discuss at Your Laser Consultation?

Bring your questions—and be honest about your schedule. A treatment that looks appealing online may require more aftercare than you can comfortably manage right now.

Your consultation should cover:

  • Your main concerns and what improvement would look like to you.
  • Your skin tone, recent tanning, and history of pigmentation changes or melasma.
  • Previous treatments, medical history, medications, and any history of cold sores.
  • Upcoming trips, outdoor activities, and important events.
  • Expected recovery, potential risks, treatment spacing, and total cost.

New, changing, or unusual spots should be medically evaluated before cosmetic treatment.

How Should You Care for Your Skin Before and After Treatment?

Follow the instructions provided for your specific procedure. Aftercare varies with treatment depth and your skin’s needs.

Sun protection generally includes shade, protective clothing, and broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher when your provider advises sunscreen can be applied. Reapply sunscreen during outdoor exposure as directed on the label.

Avoid tanning, and ask when you can resume makeup, retinoids, exfoliating products, workouts, and other activities. Don’t pick at peeling or flaking skin, and contact your treatment team if recovery seems different from what they described.

Consistent home care helps protect the investment you’re making in your skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is fall the only time you can get laser treatments?

No. Some treatments can be performed year-round for appropriate candidates. Your recent sun exposure and ability to follow aftercare matter more than the calendar alone.

  • Can I have a treatment if I still have a summer tan?

You may need to wait. Tell your provider about recent tanning, sunburn, and self-tanner so they can determine when treatment is appropriate.

  • How many treatments will I need?

There is no universal number. The recommendation depends on the device, your skin concerns, and your response. Ask about both the initial plan and possible maintenance.

  • How much downtime should I expect?

Recovery varies. Gentler procedures may cause temporary redness or roughness, while deeper resurfacing can require a longer healing period. Get a treatment-specific estimate before booking.

  • Are laser treatments suitable for all skin tones?

Not every device is appropriate for every skin tone. Your provider should select the technology and settings with your skin type and pigmentation risk in mind.
