HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BOTOX®
If you care about your skin, then you’ve probably heard about Botox®. In the U.S. alone, the procedure is used by over 6 million people every year; it’s popularity hinging on its naturalness and the unbelievable results.*
Made from naturally occurring bacteria, Botox® (or Botulinum toxin) has left many in awe with the treatment currently considered the most effective at reducing fine lines and wrinkles.*
How it works is simple. When injected into the human skin in very small concentrations, Botox® prevents signals from the nerve cells reaching muscles, thus leaving muscles without instructions to contract, effectively paralyzing them.
In the human body, muscles contract after receiving signals from our nerve cells via a neurotransmitter known as acetylcholine, at the junction where the nerve cells and the muscle cells meet. The acetylcholine attaches to receptors on the muscle cells, causing the muscle cells to contract. When Botox® is injected to that part of the body where muscle contraction was expected, the botulinum toxin prevents the release of acetylcholine and by doing so prevents contraction of muscle cells. The result is usually fewer and diminished wrinkles and creases, whether on the forehead, around the eyes, or any other part of the body where Botox is applied.*
Medical and cosmetic uses
These qualities make Botox® an ideal treatment for fine lines and wrinkles especially in older adults.* As we age, due to reduced collagen and fueled by natural wear and tear, the skin on the forehead and several other areas of the face can become saggy. Botox®, if applied in the right amounts can quickly reverse the sagging, relieving you of wrinkles and fine lines among other problems.*
At CHRONOS Body Health Wellness, we use it for the following therapeutic applications;
- Non-surgical reduction of lines and wrinkles: You don’t need to go through surgery to get a smooth face. Botox® is minimally invasive and can remove lines and wrinkles on the forehead, neck, and around the mouth in just a few days.
- Lifting eye brows: Over time, owing to age, our eye brows may drop or sag just a little. Botox® is effective in lifting the eye brow and will leave you looking younger and less tired.
- Treating excessive sweating: Several us sweat a lot under the arms which can be embarrassing when at work or when attending functions. A measured dose of Botox® is a proven cure for this trauma.
- Reduce migraines: As a wellness center, we also use Botox® to reduce migraines especially in patients who suffer from chronic headaches.
